Dr Plaisier says he choose his career in medicine when a fellow student in a college biology class remarked how much he reminded him of his father who was a physician. He found a calling in the earliest days of his residency in the intensive care unit. He gets excited to come to work each day when he gets to be a part of a highly functioning team whose mission it is to save lives and return loved ones to their families. He knows that this isn’t always possible and, when this happens, “we are providers of comfort, always.” The biggest influences in Dr Plaisier’s life have been the professors in his fellowship who showed him that the art of medicine is as important as the science.
