Teryl Nuckols, MD, studies quality of care: How do you measure it, how do you improve it, and what does it cost? She developed the Quality-Cost Framework, which describes how quality of care can influence costs. She has developed measures of quality of care and surgical appropriateness for carpal tunnel syndrome and degenerative lumbar scoliosis. She co-led a project that involved implementing an inpatient fall-prevention program and evaluating effectiveness and net costs. On behalf of policymakers in California and Australia, she has evaluated clinical practice guidelines related to occupational health conditions and the use of opioids for chronic pain.
